Ok, it looks like this blog is dormant , or perhaps dead? Depends on how one looks at it actually.
Haven't been having any posts for the past couple of months.

Predictions that missed the mark

In 1894, the president of the Royal Society, William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, predicted that radio had no future. The first radio factory was opened five years later. Today, there are more than one billion radio sets in the world, tuned to more than 33 000 radio stations around the world. He also predicted that heavier-than-air flying machines were impossible. The Wright Brother's first flight covered a distance equal to only half the length of the wingspan of a Boeing 747. He also said, "X-rays will prove to be a hoax."

In the 6th century BC Greek mathematician Pythagoras said that earth is round - but few agreed with him. Greek astronomer Aristarchos said in the 3rd century BC that earth revolves around the sun - but the idea was not accepted. In the 2nd century BC Greek astronomer Erastosthenes accurately measured the distance around the earth at about 40,000 km (24,860 miles) - but nobody believed him. In the 2nd century AD Greek astronomer Ptolemy stated that earth was the centre of the universe - most people believed him for the next 1,400 years.

In the early 20th century a world market for only 4 million automobiles was predicted because "the world would run out of chauffeurs." Shortly after the end of World War II (1945), the whole of Volkswagen, factory and patents, was offered free to Henry Ford II. He dismissed the Volkswagen Beetle as a bad design. Today, more than 70 million motorcars are produced every year. The Beetle became one of the best-selling vehicles of all time.

The telephone was not widely appreciated for the first 15 years because people did not see a use for it. In fact, in the British parliament it was mentioned there was no need for telephones because "we have enough messengers here." Western Union believed that it could never replace the telegraph. In 1876, an internal memo read: "This telephone has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication." Even Mark Twain, upon being invited by Alexander Graham Bell to invest $5 000 in the new invention, could not see a future in the telephone.

Irish scientist, Dr. Dionysius Lardner (1793 - 1859) didn't believe that trains could contribute much in speedy transport. He wrote: "Rail travel at high speed is not possible, because passengers ' would die of asphyxia' [suffocation]." Today, trains reach speeds of 500 km/h.

In 1927, H.M. Warner, Warner Brothers, asked, "Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?" In 1936, Radio Times editor Rex Lambert thought "Television won't matter in your lifetime or mine."

In 1943, Thomas Watson, the chairman of IBM forecast a world market for "maybe only five computers." Years before IBM launched the personal computer in 1981, Xerox had already successfully designed and used PCs internally... but decided to concentrate on the production of photocopiers. Even Ken Olson, founder of Digital Equipment Corporation, said in 1977, "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home."

After the invention of the transistor in 1947, several US electronics companies rejected the idea of a portable radio. Apparently it was thought nobody would want to carry a radio around. When Bell put the transistor on the market in 1952 they had few takers apart from a small japanese start-up called Sony. They introduced the transistor radio in 1954.

In 1894, A.A. Michelson, who with E.W. Morley seven years earlier experimentally demonstrated the constancy of the speed of light, said that the future of science would consist of "adding a few decimal places to the results already obtained."

In 1954, a concert manager fired Elvis Presley, saying, "You ought to go back to driving a truck." In 1962, Decca Records rejected the Beatles, "We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out."

In 1966, Time Magazine predicted, "By 2000, the machines will be producing so much that everyone in the U.S. will, in effect, be independently wealthy." In that year too CoCo Chanel said about miniskirts: "It's a bad joke that won't last. Not with winter coming."

Sometimes a few decimal places make a massive difference. Library House explains that investment banks rely on computer models to direct trading activity; in August 2007, Goldman Sachs’ hedge funds and other quant funds were left exposed by a series of market swings, each of which their software predicted would occur only once every 100,000 years. Goldman Sachs required a $3 billion (€1.9 billion) bailout, with other banks joining the hand-out queue.

Perhaps the guy who got it wrong most was the commissioner of the US Office of Patents: in 1899, Charles H. Duell, assured President McKinley that "everything that can be invented has been invented."

I have to admit, this blog really is dying. It seems like a fish, in a way. Super hyper at the start, then slows down slowly to end up in a halt eventually and dies. We don't seem to want to write much in this blog anymore.

Let's continue to keep this blog alive ok? For all those who still have something to say, just say it, just to keep the blog alive. We still have half a year together . :)

It's ok to have nothing much to say and just keep typing like this. I guess. I'm fine with any protests. If ur don't like it, ur can just take it down. Just trying to have something new to read here.

You all can complain or comment if ur would like to, it is still activity afterall. Here are some photographs of our class. I shan't reveal when they are taken. Just for a flashback at the times we have together.

guess who.

hols are coming up so what kind of class outings would be nice... theres talk about a class chalet yeah... sounds pretty boring to me. before the reshuffling crap and all. i wonder who will get reshuffled with who. so what are the plans? cycling? iceskating? go changi airport (which isnt sensible at all -.-)? you know, like 204, we could order pizza and then throw this huge party in school. its going to cost a bomb though.

just wondering where else we could go. vivo is sian. imm is impractical. west coast plaza is jus weird. actually we can decide as a class. some other time.

next year, this blog will be dead. maybe im even posting the last post.

after script checking any plans... cos almost everyone won't have the mood to be cheery or whatever, they crammed all the subjects into one day if u noticed... and 3rd lang ppl haf to go back on tuesday.

i doubt the sustainability of the blog... this must be the 2nd time im posting here. it would be awkward if weijie were to tag along, maybe we should just try. just a suggestion. not that it matters anyway.

So anw, as you guys know, we'll be going to east coast park this coming thursday to cycle.
We'll be meeting at Bedok mrt in the morning, then we'll prolly take a bus to ecp.
The rental shop opens at 8am, so maybe we'll meet at 9am and get there at around 9.30am?
And erm. For the 1st half hour we can spend it by teaching ppl to cycle.
(dont worry it'll be easy)

Damn. I hate this crap. -.-
So er anyway, they sent me this attachment.
Ice Surfacing Time (takes about 15min to 20min)

the best time to go would be around 2.30pm.

And er, can you guys decide if you want to have lunch there coz we'll prolly have lotsa time after having our lunch before actually skating.

We'll take around 30min so we can slack after that. Until about 2.30 then we chiong to the skating rink.

Oh and gloves ARE compulsory. (you even get to rent them at $2.50 a pair -.- . So if you don't want to waste your money, just grab the kitchen gloves and stuff them with cotton!!!!)

Oh and btw BRING GLOVES.
I don't care whatever gloves you bring. Just bring a pair of gloves. Kitchen gloves also can. (stuff them with cotton wool btw so that your fingers won't freeze).
~~Yeah, gloves are compulsory there. (which is kinda stupid but idc)~~
I'm not sure if they're compulsory though. Just bring unless you want your fingers to freeze.

oh, i'll finish this, shall i?

this, darlings, is the 200th post.

WOOHOO. no i didn't expect anything.

so i might as well close the year off with this thing.

we've had a great first year, i think.
i mean, there were a lot of screw-ups, and there were times when everything felt horrible, and everything was just gonna flop over and die.

including us.

and remember at the start when we didn't even know each other?

we've come through a lot.
the sl project, the orientation crap, whatever...

even though we took a hour for that dance thing.
we still did it.
even though it was just swaying with me and zw gaying at the front.
still. xD

even though all the teachers were screaming at us.
saying we sucked, basically.
yes the teachers are reading this. i know.
but hey, we still made it through.

even though all the time,
everyone said we wouldn't make it,
that we needed more team spirit/focus/money/books, whatever,
we got through. (we need less books btw.)

and hey, at least we didn't prove them right.
(neutrality doesn't count.)

so next year... M09107 is coming.
and it's not going to be fun, not at first.
either that, or it's gonna be super easy and they'll be super nice and super random and super hyper!
nothing like us at ALL.

...if that's true, then all the info i've been getting is so wrong...

but at least we can do for them what only a few people were able to do for us.
we can encourage them, help them along, and above all.
let them have a really good time.

that's what nush is all about, at least for the first three days.

let's make them appreciate that they chose to come to nush.
instead of ri or rgs or hci or nygh or dhs or whatever.

let's actually get them to have fun, and be seniors to them.

let's not have a complete clone of this year.

For those "lost" 107 ppl out there, these are the test and exam dates.
This monday, we have eng common test (recount writing)...On tues we have geog test, the topics tested are on e-space....GO CHECK!!! On Wed, we have phys and chem...since our class hasn't exactly been doing very well for phys, this is our chance to push up our grades so take it srsly!!!On thurs, there's a music test for those taking music...and i suppose there's no test on Fri...busy week!!! On Fri, the week after, we have mbio prac test so revise all ur techniques.....Then there's math file check on 13/10/08....remember to file properly....then on 23 Oct, there's the music exam so be punctual.....and from 24Oct, our exams start so...yea....not much time left.....sadly....so....

2. Apple Sep 9 event. That's next tue. New iPods, design revision.......and 64GB iPod touch

How nice. But i'm not caring that much, weirdly. Oh, and new MacBooks expected at teh end of the year.

3. iPhone 3Gs are slow. well, some. and some have been lagging.

and the users dunno how to fix that problem. well, i shall be evil and nt give the solution. since hardly no one cares anyway.

Fine. Hold the home and sleep/wake buttons down together for 10s. The iPhone should reset.

that'll solve teh prob. it'll also solve the problem of 3rd party applications crashing.

and i stil havent gotten my iTunes store account.
